Red Dragonfly for the Fourth of July

This striking creature

is a Libellula croceipennis or Neon Skimmer dragonfly

Considered common in this region of Texas, it's not at all common looking.

Even more striking against the blue adobe courtyard at The Antique Rose Emporium here in San Antonio.

Beautiful colors

A bit of red, white, and blue just in time for the Fourth of July.

  5. Lovely photos of the dragonflies. Reminds me of the ones we used to get at the office where I worked, near a river. We never had any red ones though.

  6. Wow...against that blue wall it is stunning. Definitely have never seen that creature...but I see dragonflies quite often, even in drought.
