Garden Blogger's Bloom Day: November 2011

It's raining today!  A rare rainy day here, but I knew that might happen and took these photos yesterday evening.  We have had great weather here so I had no problem finding  blooms for my first Garden Blogger's Bloom Day post.  Join Carol at May Dreams Gardens and other garden bloggers as we post what's blooming today in our gardens.

Lots of single blooms because it was a tough summer and we've had a couple of chilly nights.

Yellow Cestrum (Cestrum aurantiacum)

Pink Periwinkle (Catharanthus roseus)

Brazilian Rock Rose (Pavonia brazilienses
This one is not as picky about water as the Texas native rock rose.

Shrimp plants do well in our climate and are a popular passalong plant as well.

Red Shrimp Plant

Yellow Shrimp Plant

Esperanza (Tecoma stans)
This might be the last blooms for this one

Abutilon 'Bella Orange'
Fun getting this photo as the blooms are facing down

December should have some good blooms too as we usually have mild weather until early January.

  2. The Yellow Cestrum is beautiful--I don't think I've ever seen it in Austin. I was thinking about planting one of abutilons in the place where I planted the Pink Turk's Cap. In the end, I chose the TC because it could work with less water. But, abutilons are soooo beautiful, I might have to figure out where to put one.

  3. Thanks Christine for visiting from the other side of the world. It's been so much fun to see gardens everywhere through blogging.

Tina - Thanks, the abutilon required a lot of water this summer and still wilted almost daily. It's worth it now though.

  4. A lot of good blooms. So much of mine have frozen already.
I like that Yellow Cestrum, too. I think I've seen it somewhere before. Just didn't know what it was.

  6. Very nice share of blooms - I really like Shrimp Plant (but the name evokes the smell of shrimp...), plus that Brazilian Rockrose. But the Yellow Cestrum is right up my alley!

  8. Thanks Linda

Cyndi - We cooled down right after the rain ended so the blooms will have to wait.

DD - The shrimp plants have little scent. There is also a 'Fruit Cocktail' Shrimp plant that is multicolor, but it was past prime this week.

Scott - Thanks for stopping by, Shrimp plants are common here, but special because they are almost always shared between gardeners.
