Rainy Bloom Day November 2014

It's Garden Blogger's Bloom Day and we have rain!  It's a light rain but the forecast was for only morning drizzle so we'll take it and join Carol at May Dream Gardens for a damp and chilly GBBD. We've been about 20 degrees below normal for most of the week but we haven't quite reached freezing yet so let's see how the blooms are faring ahead of a predicted freeze next week.

The inflorescence from ornamental grasses are standouts when droplets from the light mist make them shine.  This unknown Penstemon seeded over from the neighbor's landscape several years ago and has made itself at home.

Ruby Crystals Grass and bright yellow Helenium amarum or Sneezeweed.

Muhlenbergia capillaris or Pink Muhly shows why it is sometimes called "Cotton Candy" plant.

Clammy weed with wet whiskers

Tropical milkweed is still blooming even with some chilly nights.  Narrowleaf zinnias in the background.

Purple Salvia Amistad with white American Germander blooms.

Muhlenbergia capillaris 'White Cloud'

White Cloud Muhly with Mexican Cosmos, Gomphrena 'Strawberry Fields' and Henry Duelberg Salvia.

Gomphrena 'Strawberry Fields' and Nasella Tenuissima (Stipa or whatever it's called now) commonly known as Mexican Feathergrass

Muhlenbergia dubya or Pine Muhly with evenly space droplets

Muhlenbergia lindheimeri, and Gomphrena 'Fireworks'

Indigo Spires Salvia enjoys cooler weather too.

That's the tour of best of the blooms from my soggy garden on Garden Blogger's Bloom Day.  It's cold out there but you can enjoy more blooms from bloggers all over the world by clicking the links at  May Dreams Gardens.

  3. "Clammy weed with wet whiskers" -- making light of miserable weather seems to help.

    1. It's funny but we enjoy the damp if not the cold that came with it.

  5. Love all those photos with the glisten of drops! Glad you're getting some moisture and that you didn't freeze yet. I know it's not really that early, but it feels early. That Purple Salvia Amistad is beautiful. I know you've written about it before. Have you been happy with it? Happy blooms!

    1. I like the Salvia Amistad and it has grown and bloomed beautifully through the summer. This will be its first winter so I will let you know.

  6. My muhly grass is going to need to bulk up a whole lot before it has that kind of presence. I'm looking forward to it.

    1. It's interesting because a heavy rain will weigh them down but this mist just made them sparkle.

  11. These are all gorgeous, but that one shot with the white cloud muhly, gomphrena, cosmos and Duelberg salvia is an extraordinary photo. I sat and honestly got a little lost looking at that one. Really nice.

  12. Beautiful photos, the grasses look so striking in the rain and you have so many plants unknown to me. Loved the strawberry looking flowers (brackets?) and the white cloud of grass. Happy GBBD!

  13. Some plants are made to be photographed in the rain - and what a brilliant job you did of capturing them!
