Red Dragonfly for the Fourth of July

This striking creature

is a Libellula croceipennis or Neon Skimmer dragonfly

Considered common in this region of Texas, it's not at all common looking.

Even more striking against the blue adobe courtyard at The Antique Rose Emporium here in San Antonio.

Beautiful colors

A bit of red, white, and blue just in time for the Fourth of July.

  1. Very nice. We also have them here, but I have never seen a red one. LT

  2. You're right....that's one hot number! Love the color:)

  3. Great photo. I'm starting to pay attention to dragonflies. I didn't know they came is so many colors, : ).

  4. Great shots. Haven't seen red ones around here. But, we have a lot of dragonflies. Love them.
    Happy 4th of July.
    Stay cool...pray for rain.

  5. Lovely photos of the dragonflies. Reminds me of the ones we used to get at the office where I worked, near a river. We never had any red ones though.

  6. Wow...against that blue wall it is stunning. Definitely have never seen that creature...but I see dragonflies quite often, even in drought.
