Shakespeare Garden at Festival Hill

We're touring the gardens and grounds of Festival Hill, a performance and learning center for musicians, in Round Top, Texas.  In the last post I showed you the Roman Ruin garden and in this post we're touring the Shakespeare Garden.

Gardens at Festival Hill: The Roman Ruins Herb Garden

Over a recent weekend we headed east a few hours to visit family and tour some very special gardens.  Festival Hill at Round Top is a retreat for musicians from all over the world.  In addition to hosting a popular concert series, their beautiful grounds are open to the public.

We'll begin in the herb garden called The Roman Ruins built in 1993 to house the collection of well-known Texas herbalist Madalene Hill.  It is a beautiful tribute to her decades of work on growing herbs in hot, humid Texas.

A rather magnificent bird perched in the trees behind our house last week and I'm joining Tina at My Gardener Says.... to share this special event.  I had never seen one before.  In fact, there was a pair of them.

Spring blooms abound

February rains bring March flowers in South Texas.  We love our March flowers even it doesn't make for a cute rhyme.  By May we are well into the heat loving blooms of summer.  And the Pilgrims didn't make it this far south anyway.

From my garden this week an Iris shared as a common purple iris, which seems accurate as I enjoy seeing these very same blooms all around town.

Stunning, spectacular, amazing.  Words commonly used to describe many plants.  Blooms on our native Texas Mountain Laurel are all that and more this year.

Just take a look.  Spring rains have brought on the best blooms in years.

It's spring and time to get out in the garden to....weed.  We've had so much rain this spring, weeds have taken off.  With our last few years of drought I almost forgot about that part.  Fortunately our March blooms feature some of Texas' most popular native plants and a few others from the garden which I'm sharing for Garden Blogger's Bloom Day hosted by Carol at May Dreams Garden.
