It's a blogger tradition to wrap up the year with a look back at favorite posts or expressing wishes for the year ahead. This year I'm doing something slightly different by highlighting just one post.
Remember when I toured Haven for Hope started as a means to help homeless veterans and now helping all homeless people here in San Antonio and mentioned that Andrew Waring could use a little help in the garden?
Andrew tells me the phone has been ringing. A lot. More than even a previous newspaper article had done.
You've forwarded that post to your friends, requested tours and, most importantly, offers of help have been coming in.
I didn't specifically set out to "make a difference" when I began blogging just over four years ago. Yet this one post seems to have encouraged you to do just that through a simple story about a unique garden.
While I have enjoyed reading each and every one of your comments, knowing that you are taking action and helping out is the best feedback of all. No way a "year in review" post summing up my other topics could top that. So as this year comes to a close I want to thank you, my readers, for making a difference at Haven for Hope.
Happy New Year!
Blogging can make a difference in ways small and large. Keep up the great work, Shirley! You've showed me much about the Alamo City that I didn't know, and you're a wonderful ambassador for your town.
ReplyDeleteShirley, so glad to hear that people have responded so favorably to your post about Haven for Hope! Andrew has done such a wonderful job at that location and once people know about the needs there they will want to help! Thanks for all you do for the Warrior and Family Support Center also. You are a big reason San Antonio is such a great place to live! Happy New Year!!!
ReplyDeleteI can't think of any better recognition, Shirley. Great work! I also think you're a wonderful goodwill ambassador for San Antonio.
ReplyDeleteThere are many veterans in my family so I love anything that helps returning soldiers adjust to regular life again. I'm so glad you posted this! :o)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful New Year's surprise! More response than a newspaper article - the power of social media! Great news, Shirley.
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that? Loved the original and really love this follow up!
ReplyDeleteSo encouraging to hear a good news, making a difference, story!
