Across the way, head for the Mariachi Bar if you prefer a margarita or peruse photos of famous visitors while waiting for your table.
Mi Tierra never, ever closes so no matter when you get a hankering for good Tex-Mex in the most festive atmosphere around, you can head over to Market Square and get your fix.
We were seated at a booth with our very own mini tree.
Palomas or doves and vintage-style ornaments decorate the trees. Papel Picado banners add a festive air.

Stop on the way out to pick up pastries, tamales, or Mexican hot chocolate. You haven't had hot chocolate until you've tasted real Mexican hot chocolate. Mi Tierra has been featured on national TV numerous times, most recently on The Bachelorette. The owners, the Cortez family, made tamales for a Christmas special several years back but I couldn't find reference to it online. There are thousands of photos and reviews online, just search for Mi Tierra, San Antonio.
Back out on Market Square take time to shop for souvenirs at El Mercado, the largest Mexican market outside of Mexico.
La Margarita in the next block is owned by the same family as Mi Tierra, They also own several other restaurants around town.
La Margarita's courtyard with outdoor seating area is pretty and inviting. I've heard the food is good, but somehow we always end up at Mi Tierra.
San Antonio is always fun and festive.
