Pose sweetly
Stand watchfully by as I take a few pictures.
Give me just an extra moment with the camera before you react to the shutter, flip your tail, and run off into the woods.
A few minutes later the fawn is back to drink from the basin we keep filled for all the wildlife and birds around here.
Yes, they are cute (sometimes) and, no, I can't stay mad at them (for more than a day or two). Otherwise this blog would be Rock-Oak-More Rocks.
Yes...they're cute. But, they are more mouths to feed.
ReplyDeleteWe have SO many here. I feel bad for some of them, when it's dry and nothing is out there to eat. Then, I catch one chomping on something and I'm mad all over again.
But, we have to learn to live with them. We're being trained by all the wildlife here...haha

It's such a balance here because we live in a city which is not the best environment.

DeleteWhat a cool sighting! Beautiful baby. I know I know....sometimes the plants have to take a backseat to the wildlife that need them:) And you have to admit, those shots are pretty amazing. I'd love to see that in my backyard.

DeleteEvery time I see a fawn...I think of a cartoon with Godzilla stomping Bambi. Kind of sick I suppose. he he.
ReplyDeleteThere are days when I need to see that one. Fawns sample everything, especially the deer proof plants like hesperaloe.
DeleteReally nice pics and I guess there will be some casualties where humans and animals meet - e.g. the garden. Still makes life a little more interesting. Love the pic at the water. LT

DeleteI know you you feel. I also live in SA and have a deer "problem", but the fawns make it all worth it. I always get excited when we see the first fawn of the season in our yard.

DeleteI'm just glad our roadrunners and coyotes scare off the deer, and with the drought, are not turning up their noses at rabbits, anymore! Rocks and more rocks...great.
ReplyDeleteWe have a few roadrunners and coyotes which are heard but not seen. Apparently not enough to chase away deer. No rabbits so that must be their meal of choice.

DeleteThey are cute! In my area, though, they are extremely destructive and seen as a pest. I've never had them in my yard but they've enjoyed dining on my neighbors landscaping. She lives closer to the woods than I do.
ReplyDeleteThe deer are quite controversial in our neighborhood which is well known for the urban deer problem.
DeleteWonderful pictures! I've seen deer looking lost walking on sidewalks near busy streets in our urban area. Kinda makes me sad but then My plants have never been eaten. Folks out here who live in the country call them slugs with legs.
ReplyDeleteThat's similar to what happens here too. Our neighborhood doesn't have sidewalks so they walk in the street.
DeleteI've heard them referred to locally as giant rodents. They've been here a long time so I just work around them.
