Garden Bloggers Bloom Day - January 2012

It's been typical January weather here in south central Texas with just a few nights just down to freezing and warm, sunny days so many plants are holding on to blooms while some, like the ones I've selected for today, are blooming better than ever.

This Abutilon "Bella Orange" continues to bloom beautifully through the winter.

The white Bacopa in containers on the deck struggled in the heat of the summer.  I cut it back last fall and it is blooming nicely in the colder weather of January.

The red Shrimp Plant loves this weather too.

Join Carol at May Dreams Gardens and other garden bloggers to see what's blooming in our gardens today.  Thank you Carol for hosting this meme which gets me out in the garden to create a record of these blooms.

    1. Thanks RW, I found this one at Lowes last spring. It seems to be more of a fall-winter plant but I only see them in the spring. I plan to add more this year.

  2. Abutilon is something I've been wanting to try for ages now. Seeing your gorgeous 'Bella Orange' makes me more determined to give it a go. I'll just have to find one now. Lovely to see your Bacopa come back so well. My red Shrimp Plant is almost a year-round bloomer here.

    1. Abutilon is a great plant for the grayer days of winter and available in a range of colors too. It shouldn't be too hard to find one, it does seem that you have most of the same plants available there.

  3. Your blossoms look lovely. The only things blossoming in my garden is the verbena which is okay, but nothing like your plants. I hope it stays mild this year:)

    1. Thank you so much. Verbena is a favorite of mine. It's one of the first flowers I learned to name back when my sisters and I would use them to decorate our hats made of paper bags. It usually makes it through the winter here too. Both of those attributes make it special to me.

  5. Nice flowering - I'm jealous. Usually by now, some rosemary, etc show some light flowering, but not to be this winter. I'll once again enjoy your display!!

    1. Thanks, the rosemary may be it for February here. No freezes for at least another week! I'm really enjoying this. We'll see what happens next month though.

  6. Just discovered your blog. Glorious photos. Now I know why Bacopa is flowering in my garden too.

    1. Thank you Crystal, I'm so glad you found my blog and enjoyed my photos. This is my first year growing Bacopa and it was quite disappointing during the summer, but I'm much happier with it now. Plants just behave differently here and we have to figure it out as we go along and share our experiences.

      Thanks for stopping by!
