Agave "Blue Aglow" For Foliage Follow-Up

It's been two years since Christmas 2012 when I first wrapped a strand of blue lights around the Agave ovatifolia in the front garden and posted this photo as Agave 'Blue Aglow' for Wordless Wednesday.

2012

Hoover Boo of Piece of Eden left a comment on that post last week which reminded me it's a good time and subject for a foliage follow up post linked at Digging.

For 2013 (last year) I added blue and white snowflake lights.

2013
Growth this year meant three strands of blue lights for 2014.  It's a fun way to track growth.

2014
Blue lights on its little cousin Agave neomexicana in the island bed this year added to the fun.

Always fun to light it up for the holidays.

We spotted a carload of light peepers stopped out front over the weekend.  Must have been those agaves.

Then again, maybe it was the oak trees.

Happy Foliage Follow-up!

  2. Oooh, I love the candy cane oak tree! And I thought about putting Christmas lights on my agaves out front, but they're so big that the thought of removing the lights after Christmas sent me screaming in the opposite direction! Yours look great!

    1. It would be a challenge on those monsters but you might figure it out. Removing them is less painful than putting them on actually.

  3. Wow, absolutely stunning, Shirley! You're tempting me to move south. Can't beat those blue lights on Agaves for holiday decorations.

    1. It is a lot easier to get out and have fun when it's in the 70s.

  4. I love your blue lights! We don't put lights either inside or outside at Christmas, but if we did, I'd be tempted to emulate you.

  6. I love your blue light specials! Your lit trees are amazing and the purple light on the walls of your house are way cool too! You sure do it up big for Christmas! I would but just the other day I heard some 25 year old saying on the radio that people over 50 shouldn't climb ladders to hang their own Christmas lights. (She was advertising her light hanging service.) I guess that it's still o.k. to climb up with a chainsaw to trim hedges though so I'm happy.

    1. That's what the doctor told my brother-in-law after he fell off the roof (he's okay now). We don't go up too high for that reason.

    2. The purple must be from the mix of blues.

  8. Those blue lights are really special. I love the way they play off the natural blue tones in the unlit agave. Your neighbors are quite lucky to have you providing these wonderful views. Happy Holidays!

My own Garrya in my front garden has got his battery lights on, I must remember to take a photo in the dark soon :-)
