We added a row of Mexican Feather Grass (Nasella tenuissima) along the driveway and Gulf Muhly (Muhlenbergia capillaris) near the front.
In addition to the low maintenance requirement, we have chosen plants that can be easily and inexpensively replaced should they be lost in the inevitable encounters with skateboards, soccer balls, or car tires.
The next step is to remove the grass over to the neighbor's driveway near the street and plant more grasses.
Sometimes it helps to look back at the before photos.
Okay, that does look so much better already and it should improve quickly from here.

DeleteI just love a garden project this time of year. Texas has had just glorious weather this winter. We have our own project going on right now and just couldn’t ask for better weather. I love what you are doing with the strip along your driveway. It will be so fun to see how it looks in a few months. Please continue to post photos.

Was going to work on it today, but got rain last night. It's too muddy now.
Not complaining, though. We need all the rain we can get.
Yes, we got it in ahead of the rain this time. Looks like a rainy weekend headed our way so will have to focus on indoor projects.

DeleteThose grasses are the perfect plant. Soft, feathery. They will really soften the look, and it's smart of you to think of skateboards and things like that! Perfect example of doing what the designers always say to - garden for the lifestyle you have.
ReplyDeleteNo point in yelling at the whole neighborhood for doing what kids do. We live on a curve at the bottom of a big hill so going with the flow is a much more relaxing option.
