More Progress on the Driveway Project

It was a beautiful weekend here in San Antonio so we took the opportunity to work on the driveway project.  You can read about the beginning of the project here.

We added a row of Mexican Feather Grass (Nasella tenuissima) along the driveway and Gulf Muhly (Muhlenbergia capillaris)  near the front.

Yes, that sure is a lot of concrete and these plants should help soften it.

In addition to the low maintenance requirement, we have chosen plants that can be easily and inexpensively replaced should they be lost in the inevitable encounters with skateboards, soccer balls, or car tires.

The next step is to remove the grass over to the neighbor's driveway near the street and plant more grasses.

Sometimes it helps to look back at the before photos.

Okay, that does look so much better already and it should improve quickly from here.

    1. Thanks Bernie, fuss-free is the key for this spot. I have other places for special plants.

  2. I just love a garden project this time of year. Texas has had just glorious weather this winter. We have our own project going on right now and just couldn’t ask for better weather. I love what you are doing with the strip along your driveway. It will be so fun to see how it looks in a few months. Please continue to post photos.

    1. It really is the best time for big gardening projects around here. The last two winters were too cold and really set things back.

  3. Ooh, that's so exciting! It will be lovely once completed and so much more appropriate than the boring turf that has been there. I look forward to seeing the progress and growth.

    1. The boring turf is bermuda and it won't go down easy!

      I'll keep posting.

  4. Looking good.
I have a project like that on my agenda. I've planned for feather grasses, too. They're pretty and..as Bernie said...fuss-free.

Was going to work on it today, but got rain last night. It's too muddy now.
Not complaining, though. We need all the rain we can get.

    1. Yes, we got it in ahead of the rain this time. Looks like a rainy weekend headed our way so will have to focus on indoor projects.

  5. I LOVE spring projects. I like your plant choices. I do not like unwanted grass growing in places. Can't wait to see the final product:)

    1. Thanks, sometimes practical choices are the best. Bermuda is going to take a while though.

  6. Those grasses are the perfect plant. Soft, feathery. They will really soften the look, and it's smart of you to think of skateboards and things like that! Perfect example of doing what the designers always say to - garden for the lifestyle you have.

    1. No point in yelling at the whole neighborhood for doing what kids do. We live on a curve at the bottom of a big hill so going with the flow is a much more relaxing option.

    1. Motivation I hope, we still have so much to do so I'll take all the progress we can get.

This blog is motivation to actually finish projects to the point where I can post them.
