Looking good in the butterfly garden
Melody makes a last-minute walk around
It's show time! There's Linda, the producer and Big Bird. Linda is also a blogger so no big surprise to her that I'm snapping away.
A quick tour with Linda while the crew gets set.
They get to work quickly while the light was good. Mark on sound (left) and Ed with camera (right) are also on the regular crew for KLRU's most famous program--Austin City Limits.
Linda was especially interested in our volunteers at work.
Dale driving the gator
Pete taking a cue from Linda while deadheading the Julia Child roses. They were very professional and focused.
I don't have any selfies of me at work in the gardens so I'll have to wait and see how I looked on camera.
Melody's turn in the interview chair
Then it was my turn to be interviewed while Linda made funny faces to try to relax me. We'll see how that worked when the segment airs.
We head quickly out front because the sun is getting almost too bright for the camera
The rose garden with pavers placed in honor of donors
A few last-minute shots on their way out
Out to get the long view of the windmill
And oh so quickly they were headed back to Austin in the colorful KLRU van.
It was a fun day and we enjoyed hosting the team from Central Texas Gardener. Can't wait to see the show!
You can find my previous posts on the Warrior and Family Support Center at this link.
Oh, I met Linda at The Fling. She's a hoot! Will you share the video from your interview? You are brave to go in front of the camera! Sounds like the weather was perfect for filming!
ReplyDeleteShe is so much fun, we thoroughly enjoyed hosting them at the gardens. I did the interview because I care so much about the work we do there each week.
DeleteWOW!!!! That is a great show and it must have been so much fun to partake in! I'm glad there are programs like this on TV. There are not many so you guys are VERY lucky! It's has some very useful info for Tucson based gardens as well. I have to watch it on youtube. Hope you're having a good week.
ReplyDeleteIt is a wonderful asset to gardening in our region since many books and magazines skip right over us due to the unique challenges. We are a diverse ecoregion and many of the recommendations from more arid areas would apply in Tucson.
DeleteI can't wait to see you and Melody on TV! Very cool. :D
ReplyDeleteIf we turn out even half as cool as you when you were on, I'll enjoy seeing it!
DeleteThat sounds like a fun day Shirley! Wish there was a way we can see the footage/clips from here.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun, it is disappointing that we can't seem to share gardening clips across the pond. Is You Tube available in the UK?
DeleteAll the episodes are on You Tube, one is linked below.

So exciting. CTG has been filming a lot of really special gardens (and gardeners!) for the upcoming season. I hope you'll announce when the segment will be airing and when we can all hear your spoken voice (as opposed to your writing voice). Woot!
ReplyDeleteIt is fun to see bloggers you know only from still photos and writing in their own voices on the show!
DeleteShirley, how wonderful! You captured our special day so well! It was fabulous meeting everyone and seeing those lovely gardens. A very emotional morning for us all. And yes, this will be up on our website and on YouTube in November. I'll keep everyone posted!
ReplyDeleteIt was great seeing you again and working with you and the crew. I'll post again when it airs.
DeleteLooking forward to hearing more about the garden. Looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteJust let us know when you want to visit!
DeleteWhat a beautiful garden. You've all done a great job.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your tv debut.
Thank you, I'll be sure to post when it is shown.
DeleteFun! I hope to see your interview...and must compliment Linda on her agave t-shirt!
ReplyDeleteThat is an official Central Texas Gardener shirt. It is very cool!

DeleteShirley, wish I'd thought to take some photos of you that day! I was so nervous about the gardens looking good. Thanks Soooooo much for all you do to make the WFSC gardens a special place for the soldiers and their families to enjoy. You have been such an asset and a joy to garden beside!
ReplyDeleteThank you Melody! This is the best possible compliment.
DeleteSo much fun to see the garden--which is amazing--and get an idea of CTU's story process. I'm glad Linda is going to give it a wider exposure.
ReplyDeleteIt is such a worthy project we are all so happy to share it with CTG's audience,
DeleteI hope you'll let us know when the show airs - I look at CTG broadcasts on a periodic basis as they're much better than anything that airs locally. Your WFSC grounds are very worthy of coverage - they're beautiful and absolutely immaculate!
ReplyDeleteI'll do another post when it comes up, I know Linda will give me some notice on it.
DeleteHow cool is that? Can't wait to see the show. This is such a great place and garden. Thank you for your service to our military families!
ReplyDeleteYou are so welcome Peter, we have a wonderful time in the garden each week.
DeleteIt had to have been a wonderful time for all of you. I won't see you onTV way up here on Lake Michigan - but I am sure you all had a great time with the filming crew. JC
ReplyDeleteActually, this will be online! I'll send Shirley the links that week so you can watch! Best, Linda
DeleteYes, all the previous episodes are available online and you can find them at the link in my post text.
DeleteI will post the links for this one when it is available.
Looks like the garden and its people were all ready for their close-ups.
ReplyDeleteWe did our best to be ready and I know everyone will enjoy it.
DeleteI look forward to seeing this episode, Shirley, especially because I haven't had a chance to visit this garden yet. One day!
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice place to visit and see a garden with a special purpose.
DeleteThis is just AWESOME, Shirley. Y'all and GVST do such an incredible job with such a special garden to give back to those that give so much to our country. I cannot wait to see y'all when it comes out!
